Little Inferno is a puzzle game that takes place during a world-wide disaster. The Earth is freezing in an eternal winter. The unnnamed Player Character receives the Little Inferno fireplace toy. The premise of the game is to burn all the Player Character's possessions and other objects in order to stave off freezing to death. As the game progresses the Player Character receives letters from others that flesh out the world and explain more about the disaster.

General Comments

All inventory items must be burned to complete the game.

The game's graphics are stylistic and cartoonish.

Alcohol

One of the items in the game is a set of wine bottles named “Midlife Crisis Mitigator”.

The “Low Self-Esteem Action Doll” is a doll of a woman holding a bottle of wine.

Animal Abuse

The player can burn several different toy animals, such as a cat and a rabbit. Though they are toys, they are semi-sentient and respond to being set aflame.

Animal Death

Insects and semi-sentient toy animals are burned alive.

Canines

There is a wolf doll that the player can burn. The doll will make dog-whining noises.

Claustrophobia

The game takes place in a very enclosed space, with no way to move from that space.

Darkness

The game takes place in a dark area. The only light source is the fireplace.

Death of Family/Friends

The Player Character is a child that apparently does not have parents. It is unclear whether they were abandoned or if their parents are dead.

Sugar Plumps' house eventually burns down and she is pronounced dead in what is implied to be a suicide. The Player Character continues to receive letters from her, and it is unclear for a time whether they are from her ghost or if she managed to survive, but at the end she states that she did survive.

Depiction of Disaster

The premise of the game is that the Earth is slowly freezing and everyone will soon die out. The ending of the game shows the Player Character wandering through a mostly deserted town.

Disease

There is a rabid racoon that appears in the game and can be burned. The disease cannot spread.

The item Mystery Powder spreads disease to your other items, causing them to change color and crumble.

Dolls

Throughout the game there are multiple dolls that the Player Character can burn. The dolls will not attack though they sometimes will make noises.

Existential Despair

The game takes place in a world that is slowly freezing to death. The premise is that only way to keep warm is to burn one's belongings.

The Player Character at the end of the game seems to have been questioning his existence throughout the entire game.

There is a theme of "running out of time" late in the game.

Explosions

There are several explosions you can cause throughout the duration of the game, as well as several explosives you can buy.

Felines

During the game there are dolls of cats that the Player Character can burn. They are not hostile but will make cat noises.

Fire

Setting items on fire is the primary game mechanic. These fires are relatively controlled since you burn them in a special fireplace.

The Player Character's next door neighbor Sugar Plumps' house burns down during the game. While the player doesn't see her house burn down, they can hear the fire, and it causes debris to fall into the Player Character's fireplace and set the curtains on fire.

The Player Character's house burns down near the end of the game.

Ghosts

The Transhumanist Action Figure releases a ghost when set on fire.

After Sugar Plumps' house burns down, you begin to receive letters which are implied to be written by her ghost. End game letters make it clear that she survived.

Heights

At the very end of the game, the Player Character walks to the edge of a cliff and is encouraged to jump off by the Weather Man.

Insects

An egg sac is one of the items you can buy. When set on fire, the eggs hatch and flies pop out.

Several other items (such as the sushi and protein pills) spawn flies when set on fire.

You can buy “zesty beetles” from the catalog.

The cocoon item releases butterflies when set on fire.

The computer worm is designed to look like an actual worm.

Jump Scares

Some corrosive or explosive things you set on fire can explode without warning.

Needles

The “snake surprise” item contains syringes which pop out when the container is set on fire. The Protein Powder item releases needles as well.

Parental Abandonment

The Player Character is a child that apparently does not have parents. It is unclear whether they were abandoned or if their parents are dead.

Psychological Horror

The cutscene involves a sudden house fire in which toys are seen screaming, and children’s heads explode.

Psychological Trauma

During the game Sugar Plumps' letters become increasingly dark. It appears that for whatever reason she descends into madness and eventually commits suicide by throwing herself into the fire.

Rats/Rodents

A rat toy is one of the items you can set on fire. It will move and react like a rat. There are toys that resemble other types of rodents.

Spiders

Small spiders appear on the sides of the chimney. They have one eye. The player can burn them for small amounts of money.

Spider eggs and giant spiders are a couple of items which can be bought from the catalog and set on fire.

Substance Abuse

There is an item called "Medicated Mommy Pills" that imply that the Player Character's mother was abusing pills. Combining this with another item gets the "Pill Popper" combo.

Suicide

It is implied through letters in the game that Sugar Plumps commits suicide by throwing herself into a fire. The Player Character continues to receive letters from Sugar Plumps, so it is unclear whether she is a ghost or if she survived.

Undead/Zombies

A toy zombie is one of the items you can buy and set on fire. It will move and react to being set on fire.

Vehicular Trauma

There are several vehicles throughout the game that the player can burn. Some of them will explode when burned. There is a bus item that is a bus in the middle of a car accident. There are supposed child occupants of the bus that will scream as the bus is burned.

Violence Against Children

The Player Character is a child and has their house burn down.

Sugar Plumps seems to be a child. Her house burns down and she is pronounced dead. It is unclear if she is truly dead.

Weapons

There are a few weapons in the catalog, most notably a chainsaw and several types of bombs.
