Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is the latest entry in Nintendo's crossover fighting series. The game contains a number of customizable characters, a number of different arenas, a panoply of items, a collection of trophies that acts as a museum of (admittedly Nintendo-centric) video-game history.

General Comments

The game's art style is mostly cartoonish, but some characters have more realistic proportions than others. The fighting, while frantic and fast paced, is not graphic in its violence.

Animal Abuse

The characters Fox, Yoshi, Bowser, Bowser Jr., King Dedede, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Duck Hunt, Falco, Pikachu, Charizard, Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Greninja, are or could reasonably be interpreted to be animals, and they can and are repeatedly attacked. In addition, some summoned Pokémon can be attacked.

Aquatic Violence

The balloon fight stage has a fish that will bite a character and drag them down to a KO. This fish is pixelated. The rising acid in the Brinstar level will damage characters and send them flying.

Body Horror

Some trophies, such as Pseudo-Palutena may contain elements of body horror.

Bones

Some trophies contain bones.

Canines

The characters Fox and lucario resemble bipedal canines.

Clowns

Bowser Jr. pilots a "Junior Clown Car" at all times. In addition, some trophies resemble clowns.

Darkness

The Pictochat 2 stage can go completely dark, and the only indication of where characters are will be their Player Indicator Arrow.

Dead Bodies

Some Smash Run enemies and trophies depict corporeal undead.

Depiction of Disaster

The Mushroomy Kingdom Stage depicts a post-apocalyptic World 1-1 from the original Super Mario Bros.

Depiction of War

The Reset Bomb Fortress stage has armies battling in the background.

Drowning

It is possible to fall off of the bottom of levels that are seemingly covered in water, and in some cases the player character can be dragged underneath the water.

Electrocution

Many characters have electrical attacks in their arsenal.

Explosions

Many characters use explosive devices as part of their arsenal, and many items create explosive effects. The Reset Bomb Fortress has a giant explosion as part of the stage’s evolution.

Eye Horror/Eye Trauma

A number of Smash Run enemies consist almost entirely of eye, and it is possible to attack them.

Fire

Many characters use fire as part of their arsenal, and many items can conjure fire.

Ghosts

Pac-Man's smash attacks summon ghosts. In addition, ghost trophies exist, and ghost enemies appear in Smash Run.

Guns

Multiple characters use guns as weapons, and gun items exist that let other characters fire projectiles.

Heights

Multiple stages contain the risk of falling long distances, and that is one way to lose a match.

Insects

Some trophies may resemble insects. Some enemies in Smash Run are or resemble insects. There is an item that resembles a mechanical insect, and another that is a spaceship that resembles an insect.

Fighting Master hand on Infernal or higher difficulty can result in the fight being replaced with a black shadow creature. One of the forms it can take resembles a scorpion.

Jump Scares

With items appearing randomly, it is possible for explosive items to spawn in front of a player as they are attacking in such a way as to make it appear that the character simply spontaneously exploded.

Needles

Several enemies have needle like structures in their anatomy. Megaman’s up-smash converts his hands into needles.

Rats/Rodents

Pikachu is a rodent, and Meta-Knight has bat-like wings.

Reptiles

Bowser, Yoshi, Charizard, Greninja, and Bowser Jr., are or resemble reptiles (or amphibians in the case of Greninja)

Sexualization/Objectification

The design of some characters is sexualized, most notably Zero Suit Samus. Some trophies also depict sexualized designs.

Snakes

Some trophies resemble or contain snakes.

Spiders

Some trophies resemble or contain spiders.

Supernatural Evil

Some Trophies, assist trophies, and enemies in Smash Run mode resemble demons.

Undead/Zombies

Some trophies and enemies in Smash Run resemble undead creatures, including ReDead from the Legend of Zelda series (specifically the version from Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask).

Vehicular Trauma

Several characters have attacks that make use of vehicles. It is possible to be struck by vehicles on the Rainbow Road and Mute City stages. The Spirit Train level also can cause injury to characters with parts of the train. Some minigames on the Warioware level use vehicles.

Violence Against Children

The characters the Villager, Bowser Jr, Toon Link, Diddy Kong, Kirby, and Ness, are or could easily be interpreted to be children. In addition, Miis of children could be created.

Weapons

As a fighting game, weapons abound.
