Among the Sleep

Among the Sleep is a first person psychological horror game developed and published by the independent company Krillbite Studio in 2014, in which players control a small 2 year old toddler as they are awoken by a noise and exit their crib looking for comfort.

Alcohol

The ending reveals that the Player Character's mother is an alcoholic.

During the last level of the game features the Player character's sentient teddy bear having its arm ripped off. This sequence is not gory or bloody, but still upsetting. A primary game mechanic is crawling through tight spaces. Claustrophobia seems deliberately invoked to create an oppressive atmosphere.

Emotional Abuse

The ending reveals that the player character's mother becomes emotionally and physically abusive when she consumes alcohol.

Some monsters may be interpreted as ghosts.

Heights

The last level of the game features extreme heights, and ends with the Player Character falling into a dark pit.

Jump Scares

The first level features sudden flashes of light and later levels have monsters that may appear suddenly.

Kidnapping

The player is led to believe that the Player Character's mother was kidnapped. This is not actually the case, but rather a metaphor for the mother being 'taken away' by one of her drunken fits.

The Player Character's mother becomes physically violent when intoxicated, and in one event portrayed in game, she shoves him.

Psychological Horror

The locations and monsters in the game are eventually revealed to be the Player Character coping with the abuse and neglect of his mother.

Psychological Trauma

The ending reveals that the Player Character has sustained trauma due to the abuse and neglect he's experienced.

Stalking

Some monsters follow the Player Character or otherwise make their presence known to him before they begin attacking.

Substance Abuse

The Player Character's mother suffers from alcohol addiction.

Victim Blaming

This content is implied. During flashbacks, the Player Character's mother scolds the Player Character for bothering her, and says he shouldn't make her angry.

Violence Against Children

The Player Character can be hurt by monsters, and is additionally revealed to have suffered abuse at the hands of his mother.
