Niddhogg is an arcade-style 2D sword-fighting game in which two opponents try to reach opposing ends of expansive arenas first, often having to violently fight their way through each other to do so.

Blood

When slain, characters erupt in a fountain of monochrome pixels splatters onto and seeps into the ground. The "blood" is the same color as the character.

Claustrophobia

The "mine" level contains an enclosed section the height of the player in which the player's only option of escape is through their opponent.

Dead Bodies

Slain characters are briefly present on the ground before they dissolve into a spray of what could be reasonably interpreted as blood.

Eye Horror/Eye Trauma

Though not depicted explicitly or in any detail, it is possible for a sword to pass through the head of a character, slaying them. It is, similarly, possible, for a sword to pass through the head of a character at approximately the height that would suggest it passing through the eye, though this is treated no differently by the game than any other fatal blow.

Graphic Violence

When characters are slain, either by hand to hand combat, or via sword injury, they erupt in a fountain of pixilated blood while emitting a masculine scream , grunt, or shout.

Additionally, it is possible for a character to become briefly impaled upon another character's sword, where they will hang, spouting pixilated blood until they expire, at which point they will dissolve into a spray of pixilated blood.

Heights

Though the game is 2D and contains no real examples of dramatic heights or perspectives that evoke imagery of dramatic heights, players are capable of falling to their death in various pits in the ground that do not appear to have a given end-point

Insects

The Mine dueling arena contains creatures that appear to be worms burrowing around in the ground beneath the players.

Jump Scares

At the successful completion of a level when the player reaches the end of the stage, a large worm-like dragon appears and kills the player. Though this marks the player's victory, it may still catch unsuspecting players off guard.

Murder

Winning any given game requires the player to slay their foe at least one time. After this, however, it is possible to run past one's opponent and get to the end of the stage without having to slay another. Generally, however, the result of any given session requires the player to slay their opponent multiple times and be slain by their opponent multiple times.

Suicide

It is possible for a player to leap into an endless pit and slay themselves, which will be tallied as a suicide in the score page after a match.

Weapons

Gameplay almost exclusively focuses on swords, and individuals who have swords possess an overwhelming advantage over those who do not.
