Fallout: New Vegas is an action role-playing game that is the indirect sequel to Fallout 3. In the year 2281 the world has been reduced to a wasteland fought over by rival, violent gangs. The player-created main character must navigate the apocalyptic city of New Vegas. Based on the player's choices they will create alliances, make enemies, and carve out a niche of their own in this insane new world.

Vehicular Trauma

Alcohol

Some characters exhibit alcoholism, such as Cassidy. The player may also consume alcohol and become physically dependent on it.

Animal Abuse

There are dogs which have visible brains due to cyber-netic implants, though the term abuse is debatable here as it keeps them alive.

Randomly generated animals are encountered by the player as they go around the game, and these animals are usually heavily mutilated or distorted due to the radiation that surrounds them, e.g a nightstalker is a type of dog that has been merged with a rattle snake.

In a DLC called 'Old World Blues' the character can find a basement where it is heavily implied animals have been tortured and experiment on here. In the same DLC players can splice a dog with a human or a robot.

Animal Death

The player and other Non-Player Characters can kill the animals roaming the game's universe.

Aquatic Violence

Although there is no trace of fish or any other aquatic creatures in the game that can cause damage, many pools of water across the game are radiated. The radiation has negative effects on player and although it doesn't cause direct damage, it can make the character weaker due to excessive radiation exposure.

Bigoted Language

Homophobic, sexist, ableist language is frequent in this game. There are no racial slurs.

Blood

Humans, animals and almost every killable entity in the game (excluding robots) bleed.

Body Horror

There are severally mutilated human beings that have been deformed by radiation, e.g. centaurs and ghouls. Some are non-sentient and attack on sight, and some can be talked to, so the camera focus's on their faces which are quite mutilated.

Bones

Non-animate skeletons can be found across the universe, along with the still alive ghouls which look very skeleton-like.

Before the events of the game there was an incident where soldiers were trapped in trauma harnesses and starved to death, becoming nothing but skeletons. They can be encountered in the game.

Brainwashing

Some mentions of brainwashing via white noise can be found in the game's universe.

The "Old World Blues" DLC has brainwashing themes throughout the game. It is revealed that the Player Character is the only person not brainwashed.

Canines

Some enemies found in the game are dogs.

Cannibalism

The White Glove Society, located on the New Vegas strip, were once cannibals. A major mission involves investigating someone who wishes to revive their old practices. The player can choose to allow the cannibalism to occur and can even sacrifice one of their companions for the banquet.

Cannibalism is a perk that characters can take, allowing them to consume dead humans for health.

Claustrophobia

There are some rooms in the game which are rather small. Buildings are destroyed and dark which can created a claustrophobic atmosphere.

Darkness

Along with the game's day-night system causing the entire game world to go dark during night, there are several indoor locations which are designed to be dark and fear-inducing.

Dead Bodies

There are plenty of corpses scattered around the place as decoration, like skeletons. Some (found in raider camps) are heavily mutilated. More corpses are created via combat.

Death of Family/Friends

Companions can die in this game.

Dehumanization

The Legion, a society based on the ancient Roman Empire, is known to hold slaves. Freed slaves will talk about their experiences.

It is possible to sell a companion into slavery.

Depiction of Disaster

The premise of the game is that a nuclear disaster happened prior to the events of the game, thus the events of the game are the result of that disaster. Lawlessness in particular is highly portrayed.

Depiction of War

War is a common theme in the game and the main plot resolves when multiple factions battle for control of New Vegas.

Soldiers wounded in battle are mentioned when trauma harnesses are explained.

Disease

The games are set in a world full of disease, radiation being the biggest one in the context of deforming and mutating all living things it affected. The player can get radiation sickness.

Drowning

If submerged in a body of water for too long, the Player Character can drown.

Electrocution

The zap glove is a weapon that allows the player to electrocute enemies.

Explosions

Explosions often occur in the game. This ranges from great explosion of the nuclear bomb that set the atmosphere of the games to a mini nuke launcher you can carry around in your inventory and simple grenades or bottlecap bombs.

Eye Horror/Eye Trauma

One character has a eye patch, implying some sort of eye trauma.

Sometimes when people are shot their eyes come out of their head.

Fire

Fire is also present in the games as Molotov cocktails and flamethrowers.

Gore

Almost all living creatures can be turned into graphically depicted body parts, be it the head, arms, or individual parts of the face. Mutilated bodies can be found around the place, or created by the player.

Graphic Violence

The player causes harm to enemies just as they cause harm to them. There is plenty of blood and gore in fight scenes.

Guns

Guns are extremely common and are a core game mechanic for this game.

Heights

Some places include large hills which the player has to climb up. The player can look down and see the ground below.

There's a room in the Lucky 38 where the player can see over the whole of the wasteland.

Homophobia

A prostitute implies that a group called the Legion are very homophobic, and a character in the NCR implies that homosexual behavior is frowned on in the NCR.

Insects

Giant insects can be fought in game, e.g Giant Mantis. A mod exists that replaces most insects with ghouls [here http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49800/].

Jump Scares

Although there are no scripted jump scares, the player can be scared by certain enemies which normally stay in a low profile pose only to rise up when the player comes near, e.g. Giant mantises hide in the foliage of a flora-infested Vault only to strike when the player lets themselves be known.

Kidnapping

This happens in a DLC called Old World Blues, the character is taken against their will and experimented on.

The player can also kidnap someone for a group of cannibals, who have kidnapped someone else before hand.

Murder

The games have countless examples of murder, be it Non-Player Characters murdering other Non-Player Characters or the Player Character killing others.

Mutilation

Limbs can be crippled, and when another character dies sometimes their limbs can come off.

Some characters have signs of mutilation, for example there's someone who has an eyepatch, and another character in a DLC whose whole body has scars on it.

Ghouls have been graphically mutilated due to radiation.

Needles

Some drugs in the game are used via needles.

When going to a doctor they will pull out a needle before the screen goes black.

The Player Character never uses needles or is injected with needles on screen.

Nudity

Some female prostitutes breasts are covered with a thin piece of tape, male prostitutes usually have no shirts at all.

When characters are stripped of their gear, they are left in only their underwear.

Offensive Language

The characters in the game constantly use offensive language, along with mildly bigoted words. The language is most often used by the violent inhabitants of the wastes, such as fiends and bandits.

Racism

A large part of the game's People of Color population is sent to roam the wastes or ruined homes, implying some underlying racist issues. However, there is no example of anyone being openly racist and openly expressing their opinions to the Player Character.

It is implied that slaves are raped, and one character jokes about being 'ass raped'.

Sexualization/Objectification

Prostitutes, male, female, and ghoulified, are all wearing extremely provocative clothing. A lot of them are strippers and pole dancers as well, and their only reason for being in the game is to dance in front of the player. Players can pay certain prostitutes (mostly women) to have sex with them.

The game sexualizes women, e.g. a clothing composed of pants and a white t-shirt unexplainably changes to pants and a tank top if a female character were to wear it.

There are Confirmed Bachelor/Ladykiller/Black Widow/Cherz la Femme perks which are the player exploiting people sexually.

Caesar's Legion is heavily misogynistic, and enslaves specifically women

Sex Slavery

Gommorrah, one of the casinos, also has sex slaves.

One prostitute states they wish they could stop being a prostitute, but due to someone blackmailing her she can not stop.
