All inventory items must be burned to complete the game.
The game's graphics are stylistic and cartoonish.

Darkness
Death of Family/Friends
Sugar Plumps' house eventually burns down and she is pronounced dead in what is implied to be a suicide. The Player Character continues to receive letters from her, and it is unclear for a time whether they are from her ghost or if she managed to survive, but at the end she states that she did survive.
Depiction of Disaster
Disease
The item Mystery Powder spreads disease to your other items, causing them to change color and crumble.
Existential Despair
The Player Character at the end of the game seems to have been questioning his existence throughout the entire game.
There is a theme of "running out of time" late in the game.
Explosions
Fire
The Player Character's next door neighbor Sugar Plumps' house burns down during the game. While the player doesn't see her house burn down, they can hear the fire, and it causes debris to fall into the Player Character's fireplace and set the curtains on fire.
The Player Character's house burns down near the end of the game.
Ghosts
After Sugar Plumps' house burns down, you begin to receive letters which are implied to be written by her ghost. End game letters make it clear that she survived.
Heights
Insects
Several other items (such as the sushi and protein pills) spawn flies when set on fire.
You can buy “zesty beetles” from the catalog.
The cocoon item releases butterflies when set on fire.
The computer worm is designed to look like an actual worm.
