Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is a game for the SNES, or Super Nintendo, in which a group of heroes travel the land to protect it from evil. Combat is turn based. The art style can be generally regarded as "cartoonish," however, some enemy pictures/sprites are sufficiently detailed in combat that people particularly sensitive to visuals of certain kinds may want to be careful.

Bones

The first large dungeon is Bone Dungeon. On the world map, it is depicted as the skeleton of a large horned animal with glowing eyes. Within, paths between areas are similar-looking skeletons to the outside view of the dungeon, and the walls resemble teeth or claws. The background during battles in the dungeon includes a wall that appears to be made of ribs. Bone Dungeon also contains bone piles as path-blockers, which can be destroyed with the bomb weapon. The bone piles also appear on the first floor of the final dungeon.

Skeleton, Red Bone, and Skuldier enemies are animate skeletons.

The Flamerus Rex and Skullrus Rex bosses are animate dinosaur skeletons.

The animation used for several enemy spells is a circle of laughing skulls surrounding whomever will be affected by the spell.

Dead Bodies

When the protagonist or any of his party run out of health, they will lay down on the ground as an undamaged body until the battle ends or they are raised with a Life spell.

The first large dungeon is Bone Dungeon. On the world map, it is depicted as the skeleton of a large horned animal with glowing eyes. Within, doors between areas are skeletons similar to the outside view of the dungeon, and the walls resemble teeth, claws, or ribs.

Zombie and Mummy enemies are animate mummies.

Minotar Zombies are zombie-versions of the Minotar enemies.

The Flamerus Rex and Skullrus Rex bosses are animate dinosaur skeletons.

The animation for the spell which induces the confusion effect is a circle of laughing skulls surrounding whomever will be affected by the spell.

Skeleton and Red Bone enemies are animate skeletons.

Electrocution

The Thunder spell is an electricity attack, and its animation when cast upon the hero or his party members results a charred-looking silhouette of the character appearing briefly before they return to their normal appearance. When cast upon an enemy, their appearance doesn't change, unless the damage caused by the spell changes them to a more-damaged sprite.

Explosions

The protagonist can use bombs as one of his weapons. The protagonist, his companions, and some of the enemies can use fire magic, some spells of which resemble explosions.

Eye Horror/Eye Trauma

'Gather' and 'Beholder' enemies are tentacle-eyeball monsters; their eyes are usually half-closed, but when damaged, their eye gets bloodshot and opens very wide.

Fire

The protagonist, his companions, and some of the enemies can use fire magic.

Ghosts

Spector enemies are the classic white-sheet-covered ghost.

Insects

Sand Worm, Land Worm, and Leech enemies are based on leeches or worms. Scorpion and Snipion enemies are based on scorpions.

Murder

The damaged sprites of many enemies depict them attempting to surrender. For example, Mage enemies fall back and hold out a hand to the protagonist to stop, Centaur and Nitemare enemies drop their bows and hold their hands up, and Cerberus enemies wave a white flag tied to their tails. The player does not have much choice to not fight them, beyond running from the battle, though the enemies must be ultimately defeated as they will continue to block the path.

Nudity

Lamia and Naga are partially nude, wearing only a bra. Their lower halves are unclothed; however, they have a snake tail from the waist down.

Rats/Rodents

Edgehog and Sting Rat enemies are based on hedgehogs. Fangpire and Vampire enemies are based on vampires, and their damaged sprites are small bats.

Reptiles

Poison Toad, Giant Toad, and Mad Toad enemies are based on toads.

Basilisk, Flazzard, and Salamand enemies are reptilian.

Land Turtle and Adamant Turtle enemies are based on turtles.

The Dual Hydra and Twin Wyvern bosses are two-headed reptilian dragons.

Snakes

Lamia and Naga enemies have snake tails, and they appear as a small cobra when damaged. Medusa and Stheno enemies have snake-hair.

Spiders

For his third form, the final boss, Dark King, turns into a giant tarantula.

Supernatural Evil

Jinn and Iflytes are based on djinn from Middle Eastern mythology, not necessarily evil, but certainly supernaturally mischievous. Avizzard and Gargoyle enemies resemble demonic-looking gargoyles.

Undead/Zombies

Skeleton, Red Bone, and Skuldier enemies are animate skeletons.

Zombie and Mummy enemies are animate mummies.

Minotar Zombies are zombie-versions of the Minotar enemies.

The Flamerus Rex and Skullrus Rex bosses are animate dinosaur skeletons.

Fangpire and Vampire enemies are based on vampires.

Weapons

The protagonist and his companions can use swords, axes, shuriken, bombs, clawed gloves, bows, and morning stars.

Enemies can use several of the above, as well as natural claws and teeth.
