Team Fortress 2 is an online multiplayer team-based first person shooter. Players control one of nine colorful mercenaries as they attempt to aid their team in completing a number of different and varied objectives. Players use their mercenary's abilities and formulate strategies to further these goals, while trying to counter the abilities and strategies of the opposing team.

General Comments

Team Fortress 2 is an Online Multiplayer only game in which players can communicate through text chat, voice chat, and visual “sprays”. Sprays are customized image files that any player can place on a wall. There are usually no blocks on the content players communicate through these means, and this content is uncontrolled. This is not reflected in this page.

Team Fortress 2 is an extensively modifiable game. Modifications can be added on both the player's client side and the server side. If modifications are added on the server side, they are automatically installed onto the player client’s computer for use in that single server only. These modifications can add content into the game, and may not always be disclosed to the player before they join a server. Some mods include content already found within the base game. It is also worth noting that server administrators can setup their servers to negate any modifications done by the player in the interest of combating cheating, so modifications meant to disable content may not always function.

Team Fortress 2 is constantly updating. Content will be added in the future that might not currently be reflected in this list. For reference, this page is current with August 27th, 2014 patch.

Alcohol

The Demoman has an alcohol addiction, wielding a bottle in game and exhibiting slurred speech.

Animal Death

Some server mods and maps enable an “Archimedes” model within the map, which, when shot, will explode. While the player can elect to not kill Archimedes, it may be seen if another player does elects to.

Additionally, the game's Special Delivery game-mode has the objective to launch a rocket into space which carries a monkey test pilot; the rocket is rigged to explode shortly after launch.

Aquatic Violence

There are electrically powered weapons that will do more damage to players that are underwater due to shock. Some custom maps may contain toxic/caustic substances.

Bigoted Language

The Pyro is of an unknown sex and gender, which leads to other characters making sexist and transphobic remarks.

Blood

Blood is present in the game, often to a high degree. Steam support says “you cannot remove all blood and gore from the game”, though there are “minimal blood/gore” options.

Body Horror

Some items cause bodily transformations ranging from visible internal organs to complete/partial zombification or transmogrification to a different creature (i.e bird heads)

Bones

Bones are visible in some items, and one official map and event contains animate skeletons.

Claustrophobia

Some maps include small spaces intended for gameplay and movement purposes, but there are often other paths available and entering such spaces are not forced.

Clowns

Some items give the characters clown-like features.

Darkness

Some maps take place at night, and others are merely poorly lit; this is done primarily for aesthetic reasons and to create an atmosphere.

Dead Bodies

Killing a player will usually result in a dead body, though there is a console command to disable this functionality. There is also a map where the main gameplay involves delivering two corpses to Hell.

Depiction of War

The basic premise of the game revolves around a continual war between the Red and Blu Teams.

Disease

The Medic has many items/quirks referencing or regarding diseases including a “plague doctor” mask.

Drowning

The player character can drown.

Electrocution

Weapons that are visibly powered by electricity or that induce shock exist.

Explosions

Explosives are very common.

Eye Horror/Eye Trauma

The Demoman is missing an eye, and in one map (and some server mods), the eye is a giant, possessed ghost the players must fight.

Fire

In addition to the Pyro, whose entire role revolves around fire, there are numerous fire weapons in the game and fire-based environmental hazards.

Ghosts

There are maps that require the players to combat ghostly characters. There items that are or depict ghosts exist as well.

Gore

Gore is prevalent in the game, most frequently seen when a character is killed via explosive means. Steam support says “you cannot remove all blood and gore from the game”, though there are “minimal blood/gore” options.

Heights

Many maps include cliffs, towers, pits, and other areas where falling is a hazard. The Player Character can fall or be pushed into these, usually resulting in injury or death.

Insects are not present directly, but there are items that give insect like features to characters.

Jump Scares

While the game contains no scripted jump scares, events similar to jump scares can occur from player interactions. Common strategies for the Spy and Pyro include startling other players.

Medical Malpractice

The Medic attacks with syringes, bonesaws, and other medical equipment, and it is generally understood that he doesn’t understand the concept of “do no harm.” He also lost his medical license due to malpractice, but still "practices" medicine on his respective team.

As a First Person Shooter, murder is a central focus of the game.

Needles

The Medic can use needles as weapons.

Offensive Language

Characters routinely insult and deride one another, and other players may use offensive language in audio or text chat, or include offensive language in a spray.

While several characters appear to have undergone some form of psychological trauma, it is unclear what the trauma precisely was.

Rats/Rodents

Rats or other rodents are not present directly, but there are items that give rodent like features to characters.

Reptiles

Reptiles are not present directly, but there are items that give reptilian features to characters.

Self Harm

Some game mechanics require self harm in order to get some other effect, such as firing a rocket at one's feet to be propelled upwards by the explosion.

Snakes

Snakes are not present directly, but there are items that give snake like features to characters.

Spiders

Spiders are not present directly, but there are items that give arachnid features to characters. In addition, cobwebs adorn many game environments.

Stalking

Most mechanics of The Spy’s gameplay involve stalking someone. Players using other characters may use stalking tactics as well.

Supernatural Evil

There are currently 4 “event” maps which feature some form of Supernatural Evil, which are used during Halloween events or full moons. These maps all feature some form of Supernatural Evil as a boss character or gameplay mechanic, including possession, wizards, and Hell itself.
